Check out this NC club's website

Now this club's website front page is spot on for what club members want to know.

http://www.rd-rc.org/

The wind speeds.
The wind directions.
What the runway and flying area looks like.
The temps.

Man, is that using today's technology or what.

It appears to be in realtime, so the three camera view of the flying field would show who has shown up to fly that day.

a-mazing...............

Working at the field

05 April 2009

Chic did a piece of work for the club yesterday. A rather elegant enhancement, the product of both skill and effort.

Y'all know how the exhaust fan that he and Joie put in last year was sort of laboring. The louvered insect screen was a bit close to the fan and was inhibiting the flow a bit.

Well, he built an airbox for the sucker yesterday. It looks quite professional, aamof. And works good too. No way that wasps or little creatures of that ilk will get in, and no place for birds to nest even.

I'll attach a picture this evening when I get back from flying.

The grass AND the road

Chic just mentioned that he'd plugged and seeded the field once again. That's kewl for sure, but he forgot to mention something that just might be worth more in the long run.

He also scraped the road.

The last couple of weeks weather combined with the heavier traffic to cause quite a few problems all along the back section of our road. The gravel was mashed into the mud and a section had washboarded pretty bad. Without the means of scraping it, most clubs would wind up just buying gravel. Most people think the gravel is gone, and unless it's uncovered, it is.

That scraping is worth more than you can imagine not just because it saves buying gravel more often. It's shaping the road better each time it's done. Beyond just knocking down the banked turn the moble home people are cutting in front of their house, look at how flat the last turn into the field is now. It's gotten flatter each scraping. And of course, the washboard before the moble home is gone too.

The man has done us a real piece of work. It's saving us money and making the whole strip better.

Pictures

I have been playing around with that Picasa thing. I encourage everyone to try it. Once you set it up you can make other folders for other things besides the wsrc stuff. You can use it for anything. I think I read where it had a 100MB limit. Instead of emailing a bunch of pictures you can just put them in a folder and share it with everybody or a select few.

IMAA Fly In

Well guys - If you didn't make it out Sat you missed one of the best days in a long - long time! Great weather, great pilots and good food. No total losses - I think the most damage I saw was a detached landing gear from a "short" landing. Had on of our Raleigh flyers tell me the only thing that he was "pissed" about was that he hadn't been to our field before Sat! Made me feel proud. Everything seemed to work well except a small issue about propane. I'm looking forward to seeing all the great shots Keith and Mike post from the event. Howard - do you have any thin CA - I have three hinges left to seal and if I buy a bottle itwill dry up for sure before I use it again. Yea, I know Mike - I could just go ahead and get a bottle - use what I need and give you the rest - WELL it would still dry up and be wasted cause I can't think in the past years when you were working on anything that remotely required any kind of glue!!
Out for now,

3R

At The Field Sunday 6 April 2009

Well I didn't have the camera so no picts. What a beautiful day yesterday - a little windy - but beautiful. I finally got to meet the web king - Roy Barrow - great person and outstanding flyer. Lee Reamey was out and as usual put on a show for us. Joey and Kent were scraping and painting on the building - loooooking gooood guys! Kent also was working with one of our new members - teaching the renowned Kent Rogers fly in two days method. Seems to be working - time will tell! Chick did a great job on the fan shroud. Howard got a few flights in w/his 42% Extra. Just like the rest of us the wind was kicking even that big plane around. Bill and Terry were out w/their pattern birds - now that was a show at times when the wind kicked up. Bill was perfecting one of my signature manuvers - the "waller around" and was doing an exceptional job with it. Terry was practicing "I can land my plane faster that anybody and stay on the field" thing and came close a few times. Missed all of you that couldn't get out! OH yea - Louis visited us on his new big red motorcycle! It is pretty but you can't haul many planes on it!

Out for now,
Rong Rudder Roy
